I was honoured to be asked to participate in the Monsters Within Exhibition in October 2022 – at the Near Now Gallery and Nottingham’s famous independent Broadway Cinema. With thanks to organiser Rachel Parry and Near Now’s Lee Nicholls.
The exhibition was planned to coincide with Mayhem Film Festival 2022, which is a film festival showing the very best in contemporary horror, science-fiction and cult cinema and television from around the world. Monsters Within was also inspired by the BFI’s In Dreams Are Monsters autumn ‘aseason of films focusing on the creatures that linger long after the closing credits.’
Rachel was interested in the feminist themes of my horror and folk horror series of works, which focus on female archetypes and diversifying body representation within horror tropes and which draw on the lurid inspiration of Italian Giallo cinema and classic Universal ‘creature features’.
